Woooo it’s that time of year again! BookTube-A-Thon is back! I’m super excited to take part this year. Last year was a bit of a disaster for me, I didn’t manage to complete a single challenge…whoops! (If you want to know what I’m talking about then head over here to see what the hell is going on!)
So, I am going into this year with high hopes that I can complete at least ONE of the challenges this year!
I am going to note the challenges and then let you know which book I’m hoping to read for the challenge.
So, let’s go!
1. Read A Book With Blue On The Cover
I am going to read The Waiting Game by Jessica Thompson. I am really excited to be a part of the blog tour for this novel and therefore need to read it before I can review it! This book fits nicely into the challenge because, as you can see, the book does indeed have blue on the cover! I was debating whether to try and go for Lorali but as I don’t own a copy yet, I thought I’d better play it safe!
2. Read A Book By An Author Who Shares The Same First Letter Of Your Last Name
Ok, this one took me a while to understand! I was confused by the idea but I think it means I need to choose an author whose surname begins with the letter ‘L’! I spent AGES trying to find an author whose surname begins with ‘L’ and then nearly hit myself around the face when I realised there were authors like David Levithan, E Lockhart and Erin Lange. So I’ve decided to go with Erin Lange. I actually own both Butter and Dead Ends so I am going to decide nearer the time which one I want to go for
3. Read Someone Else’s Favourite Book
This one is not hard at all! So many people have been telling me I need to read Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill as it is their favourite book! My lovely friend Jenny (who is also participating in BookTube-A-Thon) also continuously tells me I need to read this so I am hoping to read Only Ever Yours to fulfill the requirements for challenge three!
4. Read The Last Book You Acquired
For this challenge I am going with the book that came through my front door most recently which is The Next Together from the lovely people at Walker books. I have been so excited about this novel and as it was the last book I ‘acquired’ I can totally and legitimately read this for this challenge. I adore the cover and the description sounds incredible so I am so so so excited about this!
5. Finish A Book Without Letting Go Of It
I think I might cheat slightly with this one and pick up a short book. I think I’m going to choose Are You There, God? It’s Me Margret by Judy Blume. I am yet to read this book after buying it earlier this year and so am hoping I can read it all in one go. It’s middle-grade fiction so isn’t particularly long and hopefully shouldn’t take me too long to read!
6. Read A Book You Really Want To Read
Ok, so this is every book on my bookcase?! Argh what a hard one. Ok, I think I’m going to go with The Baby by Lisa Drakeford. I picked up a copy at YALC and have been eyeing it up ever since! I love the idea of the story and it seems like it’s going to be quite a fun, quick and engaging read which will also hopefully be another book I can read in nearly one sitting!
7. Read Seven Books
This final challenge is tricky! If I manage to read all of the above books then I will only need to read ONE more to complete this challenge. I don’t think I know which book I will choose yet for this one – I might have to wait until I finish the other books before I decide on this one! I might fancy a quick middle-grade read, be craving a YA or want to delve into a chick-lit or dark thriller so I think I will have to wait and see!
The readathon starts on August 3rd and goes until August 9th so I need to average just over one book a day in order to complete the challenge. It is going to be tricky as I am not at home all of Monday and then have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and then have lots of things to do during the week blah blah blah so my reading time is very limited. So most of my reading will probably be done in the evenings in bed. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself and read myself into a slump so if I start finding myself slump then the readathon is off!
But fingers crossed I do not slump and I manage to complete some of the challenges! I would be happy if I could complete at least 4 out of 7!
